NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A man repairing the roof from the inside of a Manhattan church has died.
1010 WINS reports a 33-year-old construction worker fell 125 feet off a ladder while he was trying to put safety netting into place at the Church of St. Paul the Apostle near Lincoln Center.

“As we looked up we saw that he had fallen through the ceiling of the church and he was pronounced dead moments later,” Deputy Chief Anthony DeVita said.
The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Fr. Gilbert Martinez said he was in the rectory when a security guard called him and informed him of the accident. Martinez performed last rites on the worker.

WCBS 880′s Marla Diamond reports a grim-faced pastor came out of the church occasionally during the investigation to turn away parishioners, who had come for morning services.
The incident occurred after morning mass, but there was still one person praying in the pews.
There was a rehearsal for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular going on in the basement.
