NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The Rockettes have been a staple in New York City since 1932, but the behind the scenes magic isn’t normally shown to the public.
CBS2’s Alex Denis got the rare opportunity to go behind the curtain to kick it with the Rockettes and see the inner workings of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.
As the choreographed show kicks off on stage, an entirely different show is underway back stage, Denis reported.
Handmade costumes, meticulously created for each Rockette, strategically line four changing rooms.
“We have seven costume changes and the quickest one is 60 seconds,” Rockette Lisa Jantzie.
Denis also got the chance to see what the Rockettes call the underworld of Radio City, where you’ll find props, ladders that lead to the stage and the original stage of the venue.
There are 36 Rockettes in each show but more waiting in the wings prepared to step in if something happens.
